Our Blueprint
The Haller Journey
Haller ignites a transformative journey for smallholder farmers; beginning with ensuring water security before enriching barren soil. Through a four-step process known as The Haller Journey, we merge scientific innovation with indigenous insights to catalyse fertile farmable land - fueling community strength and ecological balance.
1. Water Security
We work with communities to hand dig dams for irrigation and fish farming whilst installing wells for clean drinking water and eco-loos for improved sanitation.
2. Farmer Training
We educate smallholders in sustainable farming, foresty and fishery through the use of locally available resources. “Demo plots” are created in villages to enable farmers to observe and replicate. Training is supplemented by visits from our Haller farmer trainers who regularly visit communities to offer support and guidance.
3. Scaling Through Technology
We developed the Haller Farmer App to give farmers around the world access to best practice in resourceful and sustainable farming. It has put our farming expertise into the hands of thousands of farmers, with the potential to reach millions.
4. Building Self-sustaining Communities
As more farmers make the Haller Journey, more local communities emerge; and we make sure the infrastructure is there to help them grow. We provide help with energy production, knowledge to start and run businesses, mobile healthcare, family planning and vaccination services. Creating a localised economy, empowering farmer productivity.

Stories from the Soil
Since 2004, we have been dedicated to implementing the Haller Model in Kenya - a proven blueprint for a sustainable ecological and economical future. Over 20 years, Haller has worked with 56 rural communities to restore degraded soils and develop self-sufficient livelihoods on fertile land. Our affordable, sustainable and scalable techniques along with the knowledge, tools and infrastructure have supported smallholders in Kenya to farm sustainably and live extraordinarily resourcefully from their land; here are some of their stories.
