Africa Research Institute

Africa Research Institute (ARI) encourages debate, questions orthodoxy and challenges “received wisdom” in and about Africa: they seek to promote an informed, nuanced and representative understanding of the continent.

Likewise, as problems facing the developing world grow more complex, Haller wishes to bring attention to those throwing light on them to chronicle real change. As a result, in partnership with the Africa Research Institute, in June 2014 Haller launched the Haller Investigative Journalism Award to give a platform to those willing to identify and speak out about crucial issues surrounding development in Africa. Africa Research Institute Founder, Edward Paice, was the Chair of the Haller Prize Judging Panel.  This has also been made possible through funding from sponsors, Mako Financial Services.

Prize winners have gone on to write articles for the UN; have been shortlisted for Thomson Reuters awards; and been invited to attend African Development Bank conventions on climate change and joined the Board of Trustees to govern Haller’s mission to scale its impact globally.
