A New Look for 2024
You might notice some changes on the Haller website. We’ve had a refresh, with a new look for 2024 and beyond. We hope that this makes it much easier to explore our work in Kenya and around the world, for both our partners and supporters.
Our new look also ties into our updated strategy moving into this year. As ever, our vision remains rooted in ecology and economy. Our work builds towards restoring ecosystems and enabling communities to capitalise on untapped economic opportunities.
In 2024, we want to combine the power of partnerships, education and technology. Sharing sustainable livelihood solutions with communities and farmers around the world, supporting them to adapt to and build resilience against the mounting environmental challenges they face.
The impacts of climate change are already evident across the communities Haller works with in East Africa, and for smallholder farmers around the world.
Climate change has already led to a 21% loss of agricultural productivity worldwide since 1961. The communities Haller Kenya works with directly have experienced years of drought followed by intense flooding, reducing soil quality and crop yields. Elsewhere, McKinsey research estimates that in Africa, pest-driven losses are expected to increase 50% for staple crops.
Against this backdrop, with tangible evidence speaking to the importance of scaling and diversifying our work, Haller’s approach moving forward will encompass three critical angles: Partnerships, education and technology.
Partnerships
This year we want to partner and collaborate with like-minded organisations to share knowledge and best practices in regenerative farming and sustainable solutions, aiming to drive our shared causes forward.
Education
Our team in Haller Kenya has been successfully running farmer training sessions at our demonstration plot for the last few years. Drawing on our learnings from this program, we are adopting a Training of Trainers approach. Through a combination of creative learning resources and our Haller Farmers app, we will support our partners to deliver high quality, sustainable initiatives around the world.
Technology
Thanks to the JP Morgan Force for Good program, we are in a position to amplify our impact with an enhanced Haller Farmers app. The updated app will be more inclusive and responsive to rural smallholder communities not just in Mombasa or Kenya, but across all of Africa. The app updates include innovative wireframes meaning the app can host multiple languages and partners can share their original content through the app.
Beyond Africa, we will continue to white-label the app as we have already successfully done in Romania, which will allow partners on other continents to replicate the design and technology, but tailor content to new audiences in line with their specific needs.
We’re excited to bring our supporters along this journey with us, and look forward to the partnerships we will forge this year driving material impact. If you’re interested in working with Haller, please get in touch.
